PRESENTING
THE INAUGURAL STUDENT REPORTING TEAM FOR ECU VANGUARD NEWS

ECU Vanguard News launched in March 2020 with the original stories produced from a dedicated team of student reporters and content creators, who are featured below. ECU Vanguard News is indebted to their passion and thanks these students for their commitment to the project.

Brianna studies broadcasting, politics and international relations at ECU, and is passionate about topics including modern slavery, the climate crisis and equality. She is working towards a journalism career in all forms of media. She has done some recent volunteer work for Noongar Radio and has worked on promotional videos for Unisport Australia. When she isn’t studying, you’ll find Bri on a netball court or at a recycled fashion market.

Amber is a recent journalism undergraduate from ECU, commencing her post-graduate diploma of Broadcasting in 2021. She is passionate about sharing stories important to young Australians and ensuring everyone has access to accurate and important information via media. She has completed a range of experience at FrenchWoods Radio in New York, Nova 93.7, Southern Cross Austereo and UniSport Australia. Amber hopes to pursue a career in broadcast journalism while also perfecting her at home latte art skills.

Jackson is studying Bachelor of Media & Communications with a major in Broadcasting and Digital Journalism. He is also taking units in Public Relations to broaden his studies. One of his favourite hobbies is interacting with people. He loves being surrounded with, and getting to know, all sorts of people from different walks of life. This drives his passion to learn, create and share stories. Although he is only in his second year of undergraduate study, Jackson has already made a lasting impression on the program.

Once upon a time as a copy-based creative in advertising agencies in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Dubai, Grenville developed and executed solutions and campaigns for brands such as BMW, Hard Rock Café, Pantene Hair Shampoo, Singapore Navy and Australian Tourism. Today, he is the Baby Boomer acquiring skills in journalism, public relations and broadcasting at Edith Cowan University with the wide-eyed wonderment of a Gen Z.

Ruby Hall

Ruby studies Broadcasting and Digital Journalism at ECU. She does voice over work for both radio and television through her agent Moore Creative Artists and has recently completed work experience at Nova 93.7. In another life she was an actress with roles in several children’s television series and theatre productions. In her more recent past she has worked in the community services sector, particularly with youth and those experiencing mental illness and would like to focus on these topics in her media work.

Samuel is studying Media and Communications with a Major in Broadcasting and Digital Journalism. However, Samuel is already working as a media presenter and digital content producer based in Perth. Regularly hosting lifestyle videos or mc’ing, Samuel is a keen communicator who lives for interesting conversations and sharing ideas.

Lombardi

Madeleine is currently in her final year of her Journalism and Broadcasting degree at ECU. She has grown a passion towards current affairs and investigative style news on television and radio platforms. Madeleine is also volunteering at RTRFM where she delivers the news weekly and helps produce content for the current affairs show, On the Record. She hopes to one day work for the ABC or SBS or produce independent content, where she can deliver unbiased and truthful journalism.

Chris is studying a double major at ECU in Broadcasting and Digital Journalism and Media and Cultural Studies. Chris is obsessed with film and radio documentary; particularly those that deal with the lives of ordinary people, such as This American Life, This Is Actually Happening, and the films of Errol Morris. He’s also deeply passionate about equality, diversity, mental health, travel, language and music. Outside Uni, you can find Chris watching old movies, reading or taking long walks in nature.

Silas is studying a Bachelor of Media & Communication with a Major in Broadcast and Digital Journalism. Hailing from Nimbin, NSW; his interest in journalism stems from a passion for street culture and pulling back the veneer on today’s post-truth world. Having been involved in the music scene for a number of years, you may see him around the university or on stage at a number of Perth’s fantastic venues. Feel free to come say ‘hi’ or totally ignore him. He is fine with both.
